I was going to post something about Advent in this blog, and I still will do so tomorrow, but i can’t help posting about this important news today.  NFL player Jovan Belcher is dead, committing suicide in front of the team general manager after killing his girlfriend.  They are survived by a baby who will never know their names.

Before anyone moralizes, I think it is important to stop and reflection on this horrible tragedy.  I agree with this article here that we should not pass any judgment on anything at this point.  http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl–quick–convenient-answer-to-shooting-deaths-involving-chiefs–jovan-belcher-taints-real-reason-why-this-happened-234042573.html

Belcher’s situation is known because he’s a famous personality.  I can’t help but wonder how many families are in dire straits this Christmas season.  How many families are in the same situation?  We just don’t know about them.  Christmas is not always a happy time.  Many have horrible depression underneath the holiday facade.  Some are hurting financially and feeling the shame of not being able to give proper gifts to people.  Others have lost loved ones during the cold winter weather.  Still others suffer through many other problems, even though they have money and loved ones.  The list goes on.  In the memory of this tragic event, I hope all believers will take the time not just to care for the hurting but also pray for families who are in the same situation as Belcher.
